Der Lithograph und Buchhändler aus Fürth kam von der SPD zur Anarchistischen Föderation und in die anarcho-syndikalistische Bewegung. Dort übte er - der den anarchistischen Philosophen Gustav Landauer sehr schätzte - bedeutende Funktionen sowie geistigen Einfluss aus.
