To the political left Hunter's people are the ignorant and the ill informed, to the victorious right they are the unwashed and discarded waste product of the labouring class. Chav Solidarity is part autobiography, part meditation on trauma, class and identity, part one finger salute into the face of respectability politics, but mostly an articulation of the contradictory heart of Chavvy shit heads across the U.K.

The Lianas that Strangled the Serpent is a trilingual novel set in the 1930s that details the struggle against fascism within the German community in Mexico City. It does so through the experience of Otto, an anarchist worker and second generation immigrant. His political deception of the post-revolutionary period as well as his personal inclinations towards cynicism will be temporarily dropped when facing the need to confront the immediate expansion of fascism in Mexico and in Europe. It is a story that speaks of antifascism and of international solidarity, a snapshot of a historical period full of global changes, focusing on the impact they left on the lives of normal people.

Beasts of Burden was first published in October 1999. The aim of the anonymous pamphlet was to initiate a debate between animal liberationists and revolutionaries – anarchists and communists (the author uses the term ‘communist’ repeatedly and means communism in its original sense: a stateless and classless society where people live together and ‘the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all’. We are reissuing it with a new introduction.

These short introductions delve into the anarchist canon to recover some of the distinctive ideas that historical anarchists advanced to address problems relevant to their circumstances. Although these contexts were special, many of the issues the anarchists wrestled with still plague our lives. Anarchists developed a body of writing about power, domination, injustice and exploitation, education, prisons and a lot more besides. Honing in on different facets of the anarchist canon is not just an interesting archaeological exercise.

“Born Johann Kaspar Schmidt in Beyreuth in 1806, Stirner is one of the most controversial anarchists, by turns celebrated as the seminal anarchist theorist and marginalised as a political philosopher only tangentially related to the anarchist movement.” So begins the text by Ruth Kinna and cover art is by Clifford Harper.

Proudhon is famous for two reasons. First, he’s the author of What is Property? the book containing the immortal phrase “property is theft!” Second, he has emerged as the ‘first’ anarchist. This accolade is explained in part by his provocative reclamation of ‘anarchy’. Until Proudhon published his critique of property in 1840 the term had only been applied pejoratively. In the other part, it comes from his encounter with Marx. In 1846 Proudhon rebuffed Marx’s tentative advances and hinted that he found his proposals dogmatic. Malatesta is the direct link between the demise of the First International in 1871 and the struggle against European fascism that started some forty years later. After the ruckus between Marx and Bakunin catalysed the separate development of revolutionary socialist organisations, he joined both the anarchist Federalist International and its Italian section. Spending long stretches of time in exile, dodging arrest and escaping jail, he lived much of his life like the great white shark, permanently on the move.

Über Feminismus, Genderthemen und Gleichberechtigung wird derzeit wieder heftig gestritten. Die Geschichte des Kampfes um Frauenrechte begann bereits im Umfeld der Französischen Revolution 1789, im 19. Jahrhundert bildeten sich in mehreren Ländern organisierte Gruppen. Heute ist die feministische Szene global vernetzt und so divers wie nie – was auch zu Konflikten innerhalb der Bewegung führt.

Seit Sommer 2020 lässt die feministische Vernetzung »Claim the Space« in Wien keinen Femi(ni)zid mehr unbeantwortet und fordert damit kontinuierlich eine öffentliche Auseinandersetzung ein. Als Teil davon und anknüpfend an feministische Kämpfe in Lateinamerika und der Karibik diskutiert das österreichische Autor*innenkollektiv die Analysen von Femiziden und Feminiziden für den deutschsprachigen Raum. Dabei dient Femi(ni)zid als politischer Begriff der Benennung und Bekämpfung eines breiten Kontinuums patriarchaler Gewalt gegen Frauen, Lesben, inter, nichtbinäre, trans und agender Personen (FLINTA).

Der erste Teil des Buches liest sich oft so dicht und inhaltsreich wie ein Reisebericht. Wir werden mitgenommen nach Italien, in die USA und nach Indien – es geht also um die Welt. Allerdings nie zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten, sondern dorthin, wo wir eigentlich nicht genau hinsehen wollen. Couffignal nimmt uns mit zu den Armen. Durch die Intensität ihrer Beschreibungen macht sie eine Binse erfahrbar: Arme Menschen, egal in welchem Teil der Welt sie sich befinden, haben oft keine Wahl. Vor allem nicht beim Essen.

Die Diskriminierung von Kindern (»Minderjährigen«) durch Erwachsene (»Volljährige«) ist ein komplexes und bisher wenig beachtetes Thema. Nach ihrem umfänglichen Einführungsband Adultismus haben die beiden Autoren nun eine Kurzfassung in einfacher Sprache verfasst. Illustriert mit Zeichnungen von Natascha Welz, ermöglicht dieses kompakte und preiswerte Bändchen auch Jugendlichen den Zugang zum Thema. Die Autoren zeigen anhand vieler Beispiele, wie die Macht der Erwachsenen über die Kinder das Leben schwerer macht, aber auch, was junge und ältere Menschen gegen Adultismus tun können.
